Pocatello's diverse population — from ISU professors and longtime Pocatello families to young professionals and retirees — shares a common appreciation for things that are well-made and locally built. Custom furniture from Oaken Cupboard Co. is not from a catalog, not mass-produced in a factory, and not going to need replacing in ten years. It's built by hand in our Idaho Falls shop and delivered to your Pocatello home.

Custom Furniture for Pocatello Homes

Dining Tables & Live-Edge Slabs

A dining table is a piece that stays in a family for generations. We build farm tables in alder, oak, and pine, and live-edge slab tables with matching steel or wood bases. Any length, any width, built for the size of your family and the size of your dining room.

  • Live-edge slab tables with natural edge
  • Farm tables in alder, oak, and pine
  • Custom lengths from 60" to 10+ feet
  • Matching bench seating available

Home Office Desks

ISU faculty, attorneys, physicians, and the growing remote work community in Pocatello are a significant part of our furniture clientele. A solid wood desk built to the right dimensions for your office is a daily pleasure that a catalog desk never quite achieves.

  • Writing desks and large executive desks
  • L-shaped corner configurations
  • Standing desk conversions and sit-stand frames
  • Matching bookshelves and file cabinets available

Bedroom Furniture

Bed frames, dressers, nightstands, and blanket chests built as a matched set or as individual pieces. We design for the character of the home — period-appropriate for older Pocatello homes, clean and modern for newer builds.

  • Bed frames in twin through California King
  • Dressers and chests of drawers
  • Nightstands in single or double-drawer styles
  • Blanket chests and storage benches

Coffee Tables & Living Room Pieces

Live-edge coffee tables, solid oak media consoles, entry console tables, and sofa tables — all built in solid wood and designed for the specific room they'll live in. Nothing generic, nothing catalog.

  • Live-edge slab coffee tables
  • Trestle and frame-style coffee tables
  • Media consoles with cable management
  • Entry and sofa console tables

Bookshelves & Media Consoles

Pocatello's ISU community and lifelong readers need real bookshelves — not the particle board ones that sag under a hundred pounds of books. We build freestanding bookshelves in solid wood with adjustable shelves, any height, any width.

  • Freestanding bookshelves in any size
  • Adjustable shelf configurations
  • Barrister-style with glass doors available
  • Media consoles with component shelving

Benches & Accent Pieces

Entry benches, dining benches, window seat frames, and upholstered benches — often the piece that ties a room together. We build to match your existing furniture or design something new that fits the room's aesthetic.

  • Entry and mudroom benches with storage
  • Dining benches to match farm tables
  • Window seat frames (cushion separate)
  • Upholstered bench frames available

Locally Made, Built to Last

There's something meaningful about furniture built 50 minutes from where you live. You know where it came from, who built it, and what's in it. Pocatello families, longtime Idaho residents, and ISU community members who've grown tired of replacing IKEA furniture every decade find that custom woodworking is more accessible than they expected — and delivers something no catalog product can replicate. When you sit down at a dining table built specifically for your family, in the wood species you chose, at the length that fits your room, the difference is immediately apparent.

  • Solid hardwood throughout Every piece is solid wood — oak, walnut, maple, alder, cherry, hickory, or pine. No veneers, no hollow cores, no particle board.
  • Traditional joinery Mortise-and-tenon joints, dovetail drawers, and glued solid wood construction. Built the way furniture was made before disposable became the standard.
  • Built for Pocatello's homes Older Pocatello homes have rooms with specific proportions. We build to your room's actual dimensions — furniture that fits rather than furniture you make fit.
  • Delivered to Pocatello We deliver fully assembled to your Pocatello or Chubbuck home. We're 50 minutes north on I-15 — delivery is straightforward and included in most quotes.

Pocatello Custom Furniture Questions

Do you deliver furniture to Pocatello?

Yes. We deliver to Pocatello, Chubbuck, Inkom, McCammon, and surrounding Bannock County. Our Idaho Falls shop is 50 minutes north on I-15, and we make regular delivery runs to the Pocatello area. Delivery is included in most furniture quotes — we bring the piece fully assembled and carry it to the room. For very large pieces like dining tables or bed frames, we have a two-person delivery crew to handle the weight safely.

Can I order just one piece of furniture?

Yes, and we do single-piece orders constantly. A dining table, a desk, a coffee table, a bench — all are welcome as standalone commissions. There's no minimum order size. Each piece gets the same care and craftsmanship regardless of whether it's a single end table or a full bedroom set. If you want more pieces later, we can match the wood species, finish, and style exactly because we keep records of every build.

What wood species are available for Pocatello customers?

We regularly work in hard maple, white oak, red oak, alder, cherry, walnut, hickory, and pine depending on the piece and availability. Each has a different character: walnut is dark, rich, and dramatic; white oak is lighter with a modern feel; cherry warms to a deep reddish-brown over time; alder takes stain beautifully and is a great value for painted or stained finishes; maple is hard, smooth, and works well for clean modern pieces. We'll show you samples and recommend species for your specific project.

How is pricing determined for custom furniture?

Pricing is based on the size of the piece, the wood species chosen, the complexity of the design, and the finish. A straightforward alder farm table is priced differently than a walnut live-edge slab dining table on a steel base. We give you a written quote with exact pricing before any work begins — no surprises. As a general range: dining tables typically run $1,500–$5,000+, desks $1,000–$3,000, and coffee tables $800–$2,500 depending on species and design. We'll quote your specific project accurately once we know what you're looking for.
